About
Nurturing Character, Community and Hope.
Urban Family Outreach (UFO) was established by Washington Pike United Methodist Church as a non-denomination, community based outreach to make a difference in the lives of children, families and the North Knoxville community it calls home.
Urban Family Outreach (UFO) is a nonprofit 501c3 inner city ministry outreach program serving children in North Knoxville.
The UFO program is designed to help working parents have a safe, educational and structured place to leave their children to play and learn. Providing homework tutors, physical education and a natural style playground, UFO works hard to cultivate a sense of curiosity in children about the world around them. UFO uses shared meal times, group activities, and special parent activities in order to encourage a strong family dynamic.
After School Program
UFO runs an after school care program that operates from the start of school until summer in May that includes all in-service and most school holidays. This program has a heavy focus on homework tutoring and educational learning to reinforce lessons taught at school. UFO staff work and communicate with area schools to ensure homework gets done and any IEP students have appropriate practice work.
Music Program
The Joy of Music School offers a once a week music enrichment program for children during the year that includes rhythm and understanding musical notes. Children learn to read music and sometimes get the chance to write and play their own music.
Summer Care Program
In the summer, UFO provides a full day care program that includes a government sponsored food program to provide breakfast, lunch and a snack to ensure no child goes hungry. Children are offered outside time as well as a daily reading program from the Knox County Public Library. The summer program uses themed weeks to helps children to try new things and find what they enjoy, while helping encourage the interest they already have.
